Morocco Expands High-Speed Rail Network with Billion-Dollar Investments
Morocco is accelerating the expansion of its high-speed rail network (LGV), investing billions of dollars to connect key cities and stimulate economic development. Building on the success of the Al Boraq line between Tangier and Casablanca, the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) is now preparing for new lines toward Marrakech, Agadir, and Fez.
The LGV expansion is a cornerstone of Morocco’s strategy to modernize its transport infrastructure, enhance regional integration, and support sustainable mobility. Once completed, the new lines will reduce travel time, boost tourism, and increase trade across the kingdom.
Connecting Regions and Promoting Green Transport
The upcoming Tangier-Marrakech line is expected to cut travel time by half, while the Marrakech-Agadir line will link southern Morocco to the national LGV network for the first time. This marks a major breakthrough for accessibility and regional development, especially in under-connected areas.
Morocco aims to become a leader in eco-friendly transportation, aligning the rail expansion with climate goals by reducing road traffic and carbon emissions. The project will also stimulate local job creation, attract international investment, and position Morocco as a strategic hub for North African rail transport.
